A lace gift tag makes a lovely accent for a Mother's Day, birthday, wedding, or bridal shower gift. DIY lace gift tags are also very quick and easy to make and require no special skills!
Here are the materials you'll need to make a lace gift tag (listed from left to right): lace scrap, 5 small ribbon roses, a 2" x 3.5" wooden gift tag blank, 6"-8" double-faced satin ribbon (1/4" wide), and a Sharpie.
You'll also need a pair of sharp scissors and craft glue (I used Tacky, but any craft glue should work).
Directions
Step 1
Cut a rectangular piece of lace a bit bigger than your gift tag. If there is a flower motif along the edge of the lace, place it at the bottom of the tag when you're determining where to cut. The lace's finished edge will be placed on the bottom edge of the tag (it may overlap a bit) when you glue the lace to the wooden tag, so do not cut it. The layout should look something like the picture below with the flower at the bottom.
Step 2
Once you've cut a rectangle of lace, set the lace aside, and dot the blank tag with glue.
Step 3Position the lace, right side up, on top of the glued side of the tag; press down all over the tag to make sure that the entire piece of lace will stick to the tag; and allow the glue to dry for a few minutes.
Step 4
Turn the tag to the blank side and carefully trim the excess lace from the edges. Remember not to trim the bottom edge if you have placed a lace flower motif there.
Turn the tag to the right side. It should look something like the image with the trimmed edges, shown below .
Poke the sharp point of your scissors through the lace covering the hole in the tag.
Step 6Decide where you would like to place your ribbon roses. Once you're satisfied with the placement, glue each rose to the lace.
Step 7
Turn the tag over, and write your message on the back with a Sharpie.
Step 8
Cut both ribbon ends at a sharp diagonal, and thread the ribbon through the hole in the tag.
Now you can tie the tag to a gift bag or tape the ribbons holding the tag to a box. The lace I used for this tag is re-embroidered lace, so it has a raised design on it, but you can use any type of lace. Here's a tag I made with Chantilly lace, which is flat.
Supplies for this project are readily available from Michael's, Amazon, or individual sellers on Etsy and eBay.
